The Harriway Hotel is located in Ohiradai, a small, quiet hot spring village, and so it is an excellent base for leisurely local walks. The nearest place to walk to is the Ohiradai train station on the Hakone Tozan Railway line, only 7 minutes’ walk from the hotel. This mountain railroad, back and forth climbing up the mountain, is already one tourist attraction and this station does mark your entrance to all Hakone places. The way to this station simply passes through genuinely Japanese residential areas and thus one would enjoy it because of no hustle and bustle.

The nearest town to Ohiradai is small and calm quite the opposite of busy popular places. Three, maybe four small local noodle shops along with a convenience store within a 5-10 minute radius provide ease of having something to drink and snacks. The place has natural hot springs where within a short walk you can easily approach some vents pouring out steam and feel the real onsen town.

There are some nice walks nearby, along the Hayakawa River in the valley just below the village. It is a very nice and quiet setting for a walk. But to major attractions such as the Hakone Open-Air Museum or to the major restaurant and shopping areas of Gora or Hakone-Yumoto, that’s by train. Mostly, walking here is about enjoying the peace of a local atmosphere and it’s also with an excellent public transport network.
