Way to Hotel

The Japanese rail network is the most common way to get to Hakone, and it’s also very pretty. You can take a train from big stations in Tokyo like Shinjuku or Tokyo Station using the Odakyu Railway’s “Romancecar” for a direct ride to Hakone-Yumoto, which is their main hub station. Another option is taking the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Odawara Station—this is actually the fastest way and it’s included with your Japan Rail Pass!

At either Hakone-Yumoto or Odawara, you board the quaint Hakone Tozan Railway-a mountain train journey that crawls through steep, wooded valleys. Alight at Ohiradai station. From Ohiradai station, it takes a short but uphill walk of about 7 minutes to reach Harriway Hotel. Do ensure to carry light and manageable luggage with you or perhaps take a very short taxi ride from a bigger station, such as Miyanoshita, if you have heavy bags.

The journey from Tokyo's Narita (NRT) or Haneda (HND) airports involves taking first an airport express train like the Narita Express or Limousine Bus to any of the major stations within Tokyo, such as Shinjuku or Tokyo Station and then following above-mentioned directions by train. It will take between 2.5 and 3.5 hours to get from the airport to your hotel. Buy a Hakone Free Pass in Shinjuku is highly recommended and cost-effective since it covers most parts of your transport to and within the Hakone region.
